But I digress.
Last Tuesday was the last day of the annual leadership camp for the student councillors in my alma mater - many years ago, (1999), my fellow councillors and myself started an alumni where the ex councillors got together to remember the school and continue in contribution towards the establishment that made us who we are (ying shui si yuan).
This is one of the first pictures i took of the night. I lurve my phone.

Our major project is organizing the annual leadership camp - every year, the really old ones (yuarh la.. thats me) would be invited to go back to say something.
I was asked to share something encouraging to my young xuemeis.
For my alumni that couldnt make it for the trip.. heres's my short sharing..
How to PASS as a councillor: the Key to Making it.
I asked them to come up with what they thought each letter stood for..
For P i had words like passion. But PRIVILEGE was on my heart. I urged them young ones to always remember that it is a privilege to serve and to be proud of who they are and what they represent.
For A i had words like aptitude, attitude.. not too bad huh.. but i told them to remember to AFFIRM one another.. because the road is long and we need to continue to encourage not just one another, but the teachers and the other students in school.
For S, i had to fast forward cuz the teacher chasing.. haha.. but S was just SERVE - for them to remember that they are elected because people believe in them, and their role is one of service.
the last S was SEED - to remember that they can make a difference. I told them the apple seed story - how each one of them is like an apple seed, with the potential to produce not one apple, but an apple tree that would bear hundreds and hundreds, countless apples.. and they have to remember their mandate and responsibilty to continue to make a difference in the lives of their fellow students..
==============================================================================
You know, my heart surged when i saw all those young eyes looking back at me - so much to say, so little time. so much potential, so little leverage... if only i had more opportunities to speak into their lives to encourage them!
Having said that, I was myself.. VERY BLESSED by the rest of my ex councillors who were there..
I am so proud of all of them.. there must have been at least 7 batches that were represented since 1997..
From the batch of 1999 and 2000.

i think everyone is looking better and better.. all looking so good.. i was glad to have caught CP, whom i've not seen in probably 8 years or so..

and one of the best things about my councillors is that they not shy wan! see all the pictures we take.. and we have special abilities, sharon below can burp the alphabet!!

i am VERY proud of all my councillors. I honestly DO NOT KNOW of any other place that is so packed with ladies that are so responsible, organized, earnest, polite and overflowing with common sense then these.. (okay so i maybe i sound a little biased.. but i dont think i am far off from the truth)
these are the lawyers..

Bikwei, Alina, myself and Jean. Missing (the ones that I know) are Winnie, Weiyun and Vaneh (okay her real name is vanessa). We also have architects, doctors, accountants, teachers, math whizz(s) and chioh bus galore in our midst.. hahahaa..
and this is the batch of 1998. some of them.. in my view, one of the strongest batches around..

i lurve them so much! probably because they were the batch directly below mine.. and we learnt many many many of our lessons together.. and largely because they were all such fun people to be with.. i REALLY REALLY LOVE THEM LEH.
and here's a picture of the turn out that day.. not too bad at all..

i really think we should do what we can to contribute to our alma maters. She is the establishment that made us who we are - dont you think the best investment one can make is the one in another's life?
a very wise friend of mine once said - a person's gratitude determines the person's magnitude.
how about thanking someone who gave to build your life today?
